The AHA supports specific science areas deemed critical to achieving our mission and strategic objectives. Our bold research vision is guided by 12 Essential Elements to ensure AHA is at the forefront of global changes, emphasizes collaborative and team research, accelerates discovery, and drives groundbreaking research outcomes. Support from the AHA Board of Directors, foundations and corporations enables the AHA to fund these topic focused initiatives and awards.

Funded Research Networks
The American Heart Association has been funding Strategically Focused Research Networks since 2014. Each Network is comprised of three to six centers, each working on multiple projects focused on an area strategic to the AHA's Mission.
Data Science Research
At the intersection of science and technology, Data Science research fuels breakthroughs aimed at preserving and prolonging health by more precisely predicting, preventing, and treating cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Our initiatives and grants are all centered on one thing - driving precision medicine in cardiovascular care so heart and stroke patients can have access to the best precision care to improve their health and quality of life, regardless of their background, location or income.
