About the Joint Membership
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) is partnering with the World Stroke Organization (WSO) to develop science programming, advocacy, and learning efforts that will bring together the membership of both organizations to further research and promote learnings in stroke science.
Some of the key outcomes from the work with WSO over the last year include:
WSO has endorsed the AHA/ASA’s international stroke center certification initiative with the Middle East and North Africa Stroke Organisation (MENASO).
Initiation of a WSO paper about maintaining stroke systems of care during the pandemic, particularly aimed at low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Development of a framework for a collaborative, targeted global stroke campaign to enhance and support standardization of quality stroke care.
Developing a plan for collaborating on quarterly professional education webinars.
WSO to submit a Joint Session proposal for International Stroke Conference 2022.
AHA/ASA and WSO are active with the NCD Alliance on calling for global targets that impact risk factors associated to stroke. In light of COVID there has been more thoughtful consideration around pre-existing conditions and driving that within the national plans for the COVID response globally. AHA/ASA has been advocating with its coalition for a coordinated response on COVID with appropriate funding going to the COVAX facility and the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator that are dedicated to LMICs.
