Apply for research funding

Funding research is a cornerstone of the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission — a pillar of our foundation and a key to our future. Since 1949, the AHA has made significant annual investments in research, funding more than 50,850 projects. This year AHA’s Centennial birthday allowed us to reach an all-time high in annual research funding. Here are three statistics that we’re proud to share with you:

  • $5.9B
Invested in scientific research since 1949.
The AHA is the largest nonprofit, non-governmental supporter of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research in the U.S.
  • 2,125 projects
Currently being supported by the AHA.
These projects total $564M in research funding. Of those, 1,100 were activated in fiscal year 2023-24, accounting for $219M of funding.
  • 2,458 reviewers
Number of peer volunteers who evaluated 4,944 proposals
for AHA funding during the 2023-24 fiscal year.

Attend a nursing symposium

Throughout the year, there are many opportunities for nurses to network, collaborate and learn at meetings including the International Stroke Conference that features a State-of-the-Science Stroke Nursing Symposium. This symposium is an opportunity to share innovative best clinical practices that have been developed to optimize patient outcomes. It’s recognized as an exciting plenary program with stimulating breakout sessions to meet the educational needs for nurses, rehabilitation and health care professionals at various skill levels.

This forum provides cutting-edge information for health care professionals who treat patients and families in all phases of stroke care from prevention to treatment in the emergency department through rehabilitation. The symposium updates and informs about nursing issues along the continuum of stroke care (primary and secondary prevention, ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke management, rehabilitation and program development).
