Engagement 365: Member Spotlight
Kiran Musunuru, MD, PhD, FAHA
Volunteering with the American Heart Association has been nothing short of transformative for my career. Through my involvement with the AHA, I've had many opportunities to contribute to its shared mission of creating a world of longer, healthier lives, whether through my laboratory research or clinical work. But beyond just advancing my professional goals, the AHA has also broadened my personal network on a scale I never would have anticipated.
Through participating in AHA meetings, committees, writing groups, and other volunteer activities, I've been able to connect with colleagues from all over the world, building a network of mentors and peers that has been invaluable to my growth as a cardiovascular researcher and cardiologist. It was at one of the AHA Scientific Sessions, in fact, that I met my current chief of cardiology, who went on to play a critical role in bringing me to my current institution.
I'm convinced that without my involvement with the AHA, I wouldn't be where I am today in my career. The connections I've made and the opportunities for growth and professional development that I've had through the organization have made me a much more well-rounded and complete cardiologist and scientist.
