Dr. Gonzalez is a Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of the Neurovascular Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and has been a Professor of Neurosurgery, Radiology, and Computational Biology at UCLA. Dr. Gonzalez’s has focused on advancing surgical and endovascular treatments for cerebrovascular disorders, particularly for managing arterial steno-occlusive conditions, including moyamoya disease and intracranial atherosclerosis. He has led several investigations on the role of angiogenesis in cerebrovascular atherosclerosis and has advanced the early and middle phase clinical trials to apply indirect surgical revascularization for patients with intracranial atherosclerosis. He is currently leading with the NIH StrokeNet the development of a multicenter clinical trial for the evaluation of EDAS in patients with symptomatic intracranial atherosclerosis. His research has been published in more than 250 peer-reviewed publications. He has received several grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association, including three National Science Innovation Awards and the National Transformational Science Award. Dr. Gonzalez is the Vicechair of the Stroke Neurovascular Intervention Science Committee of the American Heart Association, serves on several NIH-NINDH Scientific Review Committees, and is an International Advisor at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
Dr. Gonzalez is the first surgeon elected to receive the AHA Stroke Council Award.
