Robert (Rob) Seby is the son of a Mexican mother and an Italian Irish father. Growing up, he had a rich exposure to a myriad of cultures that ignited his passion to become the most culturally humble physician that he could be. He grew up with family members who were Jordanian, Iranian, Mexican, Italian, and Irish. His yearly holidays were celebrations of Día de los Muertos, Christmas, Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr. His exposure to this multitude of religions and cultures has helped him to appreciate the beauty in each tradition. He attended Santa Clara University, where he majored in Biochemistry and graduated magna cum laude. He also was captain of the men’s tennis team at Santa Clara University, where he was the winningest doubles player in the history of the team and helped to lead his team to the West Coast Conference finals during his senior year. Rob is currently a fourth-year medical student at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), where he has been a demonstrated leader and advocate for reducing health disparities for the underserved Hispanic population in Hampton Roads. Some of his most notable achievements include helping to start the dental clinic partnership with Old Dominion University to provide free dental services for Hispanic pediatric patients at Clínica Esperanza, helping to start the first-ever LMSA chapter at EVMS, creating a nationally disseminated infographic highlighting treatment disparities for chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease for the Hispanic population through the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), being selected as committee chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee for the SIR medical student council, and much more. He has also been devoted to research throughout his academic career, and his efforts have resulted in 2 case report publications, 6 abstract acceptances, and 7 poster presentations.
